Deciding what content you need for you site can be difficult.
First consideration is
who are you marketing to, does your product
line and product presentation reflect this.
Then ask yourself :
Do you need video, flash or animated graphics - are you prepared to
loose customers whilst they are waiting for your website to load.
Be honest - will your customers make online purchases or will they
contact you first, do you really need shopping
cart and
credit card processing capabilities immediately or can they be added later.
How will you process the
customer accounts.
What help will you offer - contact form, dedicated phone line, email
responses or live online.
Will you be operating a forum or newsboard. Do you have the time to ensure topics
are current, moderate postings and encourage readers to become active members.
Start by treating each page as an essay. Have an opening, informational body and closing statement.
Keep paragraphs short with an average page length of 450 words. Intersperse with a few key graphics.
Images should be optimised to save on bandwidth and so they fit on an average 15 inch laptop screen
or browser page (1024 x 768 pixels) without the need for scrolling.
Your pages should be leading your customers towards your overall goal:
More company exposure, more customer enquiries, increased specific item turnover.
Giving customers the latest information, being nomiated for an award etc.
To determine how many pages your website needs allow one page per topic:
